COUNTDOWN TO 11/30/07
By Dr. Abe J. Perez (
10 Oct. 2007 )

In 47 days we will officially reopen our San Andres Church. Before 11/30/07 we are hoping to install the massive main portal and get one of the “tablets” of donors ready for unveiling. Because of time and budget constraints we have to have another day for the other tablet in the near future. The polychromed portal to the choir loft will have to wait for the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) budget release. The landscaping, west, north and south gates, antique lamp post and lighting will have to wait for available funding.

Everybody is cordially invited by the San Andres parish on 11/30/07 to witness another milestone in the rich history of Masinloc, Zambales.

TO: Furnishing & Refurbishing Donors

FROM: San Andres Church Restoration Volunteers

RE: Furnishing & Refurbishing Donors (Tablet)

Greetings and peace to everyone!!!

This is an urgent message that we wished we had anticipated. Because of the dramatic rise of the peso related to the US dollar and inflation, funding for the TABLET did not materialize. For us to have it done and ready for the unveiling on November 30, 2007, we are asking therefore each donor a check of PhP 2,000 or equivalent, payable to SAN ANDRES CHURCH RESTORATION. Please send your check to any of the following:

  • Dr. Abe J. Perez  (1776 Almaden Rd. # 1302 San Jose, CA 95125 )

  • Mr. Henry Empeno, Sr. ( 1655 Gilmartin Dr. San Diego, CA 92114 )

WAITING FOR JUSTICE: “The Truth Will Set Us Free”

AJ Perez, MD
June 20,2007

Barely two months after our municipal hall was razed to the ground, Masinloc was literally jolted by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake on December 12, 1999.This occurrence damaged our San Andres church and was rendered unsafe for liturgical services. Masinloqueños from all over the world were mobilized. In Masinloc, Father Willie Monsalud with the late “Tia” Lina Estella and other “kababali” started the “restoration” by consulting appropriate agencies and raising much needed “funds”.The California group especially the Northern California chapter had a special meeting. Each bay area Masinloc household was allotted $10.00 per month for two years.

In preparation for the 2000 Religious Town Fiesta the then Municipal Mayor Roberto Eamilao was concurrently appointed chairman of the Fiesta Executive Committee. It was the “Year of Restoration”.The primary goal was to raise PhP500,000.00 for the restoration of the San Andres Church.

The statement of accounts of the 2000 town fiesta committee showed almost PhP2,000,000.00 in revenues. Under “Expenses” was an item for church donation in the amount of PhP500,000.00.This was never remitted to the San Andres Church. The Masinloc’s San Andres Church Restoration Volunteers pursued this amount through formal letters.Letters were unanswered and a complaint was lodged with the provincial fiscal’s office. An investigation was conducted and a warrant for the arrest of Roberto Eamilao was signed on November 29, 2005 by Regional Trial Court Judge Clodualdo Monta.Almost 18 months later, the accused is still a fugitive hiding from the law and maybe conveniently evading arrest. Now he is an elected official. Will he face the law? Will he continue to evade the law?Where is the law? Where is justice?

Warrant of Arrest Copy Served to then Mayor of Masinloc and now Newly Elected Vice-Mayor Robert Eamilao

Ang taong 2000 ay tinaguriang “Year of Restoration”.

WOWOWEE storms Vegas

(By JOHNNY M. PECAYO / PNS

Wowowee Grand Prize Winner From Masinloc!!!

Brenda, a divorcee originally from Masinloc, Zambales, who wanted to donate $5,000 for the construction of a church in her hometown, was the grand prize winner in the "Pera o Bayong" contest. After almost instantly being eliminated in the final rounds against the bemoustached police officer of the Department of Defense (DOD), based in San Francisco, California, who chose the correct answer on the "Green" side, she was given a chance by Willie Revillame when he offered $1,000 who would transfer (lipat) to "Yellow" from "Green" (the correct answer: ' Planet Biyo ' ), which the police officer grabbed instantly. Then Willie offered $500 for another transfer -- this time from "Red" to "Green" --

and Brenda moved from Red to Green, making her the grand prize winner.

Ordinarily, only one choice is given to a contestant who reached this stage of the program. For the first time, WOWOWEE put the contents of two "bayongs" (bags or baskets) up for grabs, and Willie, with the usual assistance from Janelle and Mariel, started to offer Brenda $1,000, and then upped the offer finally to $10,000, giving Brenda the choice. She chose ' bayong ' and won One Million Pesos on the first bag. The second bag contained a house and lot picture, and won the house and lot, making Brenda the grand prize winner of P1M and a house and lot, for the first time in WOWOWEE ' s program history. She could not control her emotions, and she started to jump up and down, then started to cry. But the ever alert Willie, asked Brenda: "What can you say?" and Brenda responded instantly:  "I would like to thank the Lord, ABS-CBN, the staff of WOWOWEE and, of course, Kuya Willie," and before she could finish her brief speech, she was instantly joined by her son, and later on swarmed by her relatives onstage.

26 Colonial Churches Declared as National Cultural Treasures

Manila Bulletin Saturday, 20 October 2001

In a recent declaration made by the National Museum, 26 churches built during the Spanish colonial period were named national cultural treasures. The declaration was made in support of the state policy to preserve and protect important cultural properties and safeguard their intrinsic value.

For a structure to be considered a national cultural treasure, it must be a unique object found locally, possessing outstanding historical, cultural, artistic and/or scientific value deemed significant and important.

Most of the colonial churches built in the 17th and 18th centuries boast of architectural designs that used indigenous materials such as corals, adobe, sawali and local hard wood.

These churches also served as centers for artistic development like liturgical music, sculpture (carving of retablo, pulpits, altars), painting, gilding, silver smithing and others.

The committee on monuments and sites of the NCCA has nominated these churches for restoration and adopted the same as their flagship project for the millennium.
